FAMILY

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Family

Angelina and Brad’s family is very important to them.  Between the two of them, there are six children; three adopted from all over the world and three biological children.  It is a well known fact that both Brad and Angelina are interested in adding to their family in the coming years.  Many people couldn’t imagine having six children, balancing successful careers, and humanitarian efforts, but Brad and Angie do a terrific job.

It all started on 10 March 2002, when Angelina adopted her first son, then seven-month-old Maddox.  Still married to Billy Bob Thornton, Angelina traveled to Cambodia twice – during the Tomb Raider shoot and for a UNHCR field trip in 2001 – and visited the local orphanage where Maddox was living at the time.  Eventually, Thornton and Angelina would divorce and she would receive sole custody of the child.

In 2005, Jolie and Pitt traveled to Ethiopia together and adopted six-month-old Zahara Marley on 6 July.  At the time of the adoption, it was not known if Pitt would be the adoptive father, but later Jolie divulged that she and Pitt had decided to adopt the child together.  Zahara was adopted from Wide Horizons for Children orphanage and was hospitalized in the United States upon their return for dehydration and malnutrition.

At the end of 2005, it was confirmed that Pitt was interested in legally adopting both Maddox and Zahara, and in January 2006 a judge in California approved the request.  At that time, the children’s last names were changed officially to Jolie-Pitt.  Later that year, on 27 May 2006, Jolie would give birth to the couple’s first biological child, a daughter named Shiloh.  The birth of Shiloh would cause quite a sensation and the couple sold the first images of her for more than $4 million.  Shiloh was also the very first wax figure of an infant ever featured in Madame Tussaud’s.

Pax Thien, then three years old, joined the Jolie-Pitt pack on 15 March 2007 from Vietnam.  However, Vietnam does not allow unmarried couples to adopt children together, so Angelina adopted Pax on her own.  Brad later adopted him in the United States.  Pax’s name was a direct influence of Marcheline Bertrand, Jolie’s mother, shortly before her death.

After several months of speculation and gossip, Angelina and Brad finally announced that they were, in fact, expecting twins.  They made their announcement at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.  On 12 July 2008, Vivienne and Knox were born at Lenval Hospital in Nice, France.  The super couple sold the first images of the twins for $14 million – the highest price ever paid for celebrity babies – and the money went to the Jolie-Pitt Foundation.

Though the Angelina and Brad family is extremely large and likely to grow, the duo seems to handle it well.  They are always traveling together and seen on family outings, which is more than some families can claim with even less children.  Time between work and family is balanced by Angelina and Brad quite well.  When one is scheduled to shoot a film, the other is with the children.  However, it is important to note that the entire family travels together to whatever location on which the film will shoot.
